Audience: Year 5 and 6 Duration: 45 mins
Students learn to interrogate objects as evidence and are tasked to build a case to support the stories they have investigated. Each group reports back to inform the whole group of their new knowledge. Students study museum objects, documents and photographs and investigate the stories of notable figures including William Barak, Dame Nellie Melba and the de Pury family.
The program will address students’ understanding of Colonial Australia and the development of Australia as a Nation through local settlement patterns, key industries and the contributions of significant individuals. We will focus on curriculum areas: History, Levels 5 & 6 – Continuity and Change (VCHHC085); and The Australian Colonies (VCHHK091); and (VCHHK092). This program also meets the cross-curriculum priority of learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and culture.
