yarra-river-at-spadonis-reserve.jpg

Celebrate Riverfest by attending this two hour walk led by Melbourne Water and Yarra Ranges Council staff. This 2km walk will take us along the banks of the Birrarung, before leaving the track briefly to visit the site of a recent cultural burn. We'll finish at the billabong to take in the view and enjoy the chorus of frogs.

Highlights:

  • Discover the history of Spadonis Reserve and the efforts to protect threatened species.
  • Learn about site management, including floodwater utilisation and fire management.
  • Visit a cultural burn site and explore the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung connection to the land.
  • Listen to frog calls and learn to use the Melbourne Water Frog Census App.

Participants should:

  • Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
  • Bring a water bottle.
  • Use insect repellent.
  • Download the Melbourne Water Frog Census App from the App Store or Google Play before arriving.

Please note this site is prone to flooding during high rainfall events. In the event of flooding, this event may be cancelled or relocated.
