The film, The Seventh Seal, created by the great Danish film director and screen writer, Ingmar Bergman and released in 1957, brought to attention to the world what cinematic quality could be achieved by Scandinavians. Indeed, Bergman at the time was considered as the greatest and most influential film maker in the World. What's more he continued with many more films and created what might be the general characteristics of Scandian films – dark themes, realism, strong social commentary and compelling. We have now a collection of three contemporary Scandinavian films which have continued the standards laid down by Bergman.

Firstly there is an exciting thriller with the Danish film Kingmaker having a surprise finish. This is followed by a most dramatic drama, The Riot, concerning Norwegian copper mines in the early 20th century and the dawning and development of the rights for workers. To finish there is a sparkling comedy about a mature couple returning to Rome to celebrate their early days – an homage to Rome and it's art.
