SCHUBERTIADE  (noun 1. A social gathering whose primary purpose is the performance of the music of Schubert and where the music of no other composer is played.)

The Dandenong Ranges Orchestra is a community-based orchestra that has been bringing classical music to the hills area of Yarra Ranges for almost fourty years. Membership is drawn from local (and wider) professional and amateur musicians of all ages and abilities who come together to enjoy playing the classical repertoire under the baton of a professional musical director.

Virtually unknown to the wider world throughout his short lifetime nearly all performances of Franz Peter Schubert’s music took place within the private houses of his friends in the artistic circles of early 19th century Vienna. These gatherings were affectionately known as “Schubertiades”

Performing the 3rd Symphony in D Major (D 200) and selections from the opera/ballet “Rosamunde” this concert celebrates the work of a most unique composer for whom everyone who loves classical music reserves a soft spot in their hearts.
