About our Facilitator

Ruth McGowan (OAM), author of “Get Elected”, is a successful community leader and committed volunteer. She supports community leaders who seek to make a positive difference in their communities by standing for public office. Ruth has thrived in leadership roles as a Councillor and Mayor in local government and supported candidates to get elected at a local, state and federal level. She manages her own business as a leadership coach and delivers candidate training across Australia in partnership with organisations such as Women for Election and Pathways to Politics. Ruth is an engaging and entertaining trainer with a practical focus. Her sessions aim to 'make the impossible possible' so that participants can be empowered to understand that 'getting into politics' can be an achievable dream.  As an advocate for more diversity in politics, Ruth focuses on supporting women and people from diverse backgrounds to be equipped with the practical skills and plans they need to stand for office.
