Canopy. Noun:
1. an ornamental cloth covering hung or held up over something, especially a throne or bed.
2. the uppermost branches of the trees in a forest, forming a more or less continuous layer of foliage.
The protection of a canopy. A walk through dappled light. The sound of wind through leaves. Branches, hollows, fallen wood, homes for wildlife. The grandeur of 300 years of life. We understand the value of trees, deeply, in a place beyond words.
This group exhibition seeks to explore biodiversity through textiles, focussing on the intersection of urban and wild. As change moves through our suburbs an opportunity exists to shape a cooler, more biodiverse future together. ‘Canopy’ presents an optimistic view of that future, one where residents celebrate their urban trees and take action to grow our urban forests. It encourages us to consider the value of the trees around us and to secure these wonders for future generations.
