The soma is the body as experienced from within, and somatic practices help us attune internally.  A flow state comes when we are completely absorbed, energised and focused. Bringing these together enhances our capacity to appreciate and enjoy the complex and beautiful aliveness of our bodies.

Flow State Somatics is informed by many modalities including yoga, chi gung, body mind centring, Zen meditation, contact improvisation dance, ancestral movement, Dadirri (deep listening), Focusing and somatics, plus neuroscientific research, this work will cultivate states of profound peace, delicious presence, deep listening, and connection with creativity as a force of nature.

Presented by doctor Maya Ward who has a 30+ years of practice exploring the intersections between these various modalities.

Contact Improvisation is a playful, supportive and creative dance form that involves physical contact with other dancers, including rolling, leaning, lifting, and supporting weight.

You’ll learn how to safely give and receive weight, and flow into a dance where both of you are leading and following simultaneously. Sometimes described as a cross between martial arts, surfing, dancing and massage, it teaches skills of listening and being deeply present in the moment.

In this workshop participants take inspiration from the current exhibition, And they are Seeing You: The Gaze of an Alive World featuring images of water creatures including seals and fish - excellent teachers of play and flow.

For dancing, it’s recommended to wear comfortable long sleeves and pants or leggings - avoid zips or buttons.

Permaculture is a contraction of both Permanent Agriculture and Permanent Culture.

In this writing workshop we will springboard off Maya’s exhibition And they are Seeing You: the Gaze of an Alive World that explores, among other themes, planting seeds for a sustainable culture that could evolve here in the Yarra Valley. We will work with special writing techniques designed to free your voice and imagination, and collectively dream into other ways of knowing and being. Food growing, architecture, art practices and rituals of work and seasonality will be re-imagined for their capacity to bring about a more beautiful and ecologically attuned human culture.

This workshop will be inspirational for artists, home makers, parents, policy makers, gardeners, farmers and visionaries of all stripes.

Maya has been a student and teacher of Permaculture for the last 30 years, and is an author and writing teacher. For more information about her work, go to www.mayaward.com.au
