Contact Improvisation is a playful, supportive and creative dance form that involves physical contact with other dancers, including rolling, leaning, lifting, and supporting weight.
You’ll learn how to safely give and receive weight, and flow into a dance where both of you are leading and following simultaneously. Sometimes described as a cross between martial arts, surfing, dancing and massage, it teaches skills of listening and being deeply present in the moment.
In this workshop participants take inspiration from the current exhibition, And they are Seeing You: The Gaze of an Alive World featuring images of water creatures including seals and fish - excellent teachers of play and flow.
For dancing, it’s recommended to wear comfortable long sleeves and pants or leggings - avoid zips or buttons.
