No more than one week prior to your collection date.

Preference is no earlier than the Sunday before the scheduled collection week for your property.

“Hard Waste” means household waste items not suitable for collection in the regular kerbside bin garbage and recyclables collections. These items are often large, bulky or otherwise difficult to dispose of in regular bin collections.

• 3 cubic metres of hard waste,
• 3 cubic metres of bundled branches and
• unlimited metal (provided it meets the requirements of the service listed in the waste booklet and on the website)

Unfortunately, in these instances the waste becomes the responsibility of the resident/tenant. If the material is able to be collected, it may be collected by the contractor.

For Hard Waste & Bundled Branches collections we have up to five different trucks collecting the different kinds of waste.

However, if a street is small or the collections are of a low volume the contractors may decide to send only one truck to collect all kinds of wastes. This waste is compacted in the truck while they are collecting, they will then take the waste to the transfer station and use an excavator to break up and separate the waste.

This option can save on the kilometres travelled by the trucks and therefore the pollution and costs associated.

The Sunday before the scheduled collection week for your property.

As collections take place over the week, it’s important that all hard waste is placed out by the Sunday before the collection week, so nothing is missed.

It is not practical for commercial properties to place hard waste on the footpath in front of the shop as it would impact pedestrian access.

Commercial properties do not pay for hard waste collections as part of their waste service charges.

 How does the truck know what is ours and what is our neighbours? (We don’t want a knockback notice)

Ensure that you only place out acceptable material in accordance with the collection requirements. To avoid confusion, place material in separate piles and not one pile for all properties.

Place your address on a piece of paper with the hard waste pile so that the contractor is aware of where the waste has come from.

Electrical waste or e-waste is an item with a plug, battery or power cord that is no longer working or wanted.

These items contain precious metals and dangerous chemicals and are no longer allowed to be placed in kerbside bins at any time but can be placed out for the Hard Waste collection.

The State Government’s E-Waste ban came into effect on 1 July, 2019, and means that no E-Waste can be placed out in kerbside bins and instead need to be dropped off at waste transfer stations, collected by a contractor or put out for hard waste collection, to ensure it is disposed of and recycled appropriately.

Council used to print 70,000 waste calendars and booklets each year only to discover that the majority of residents were discarding them.

If residents don’t have access to the digital versions, they can request a copy of the booklet and/or calendar and it will be provided. Call us on 1300 368 333 or email mail@yarraranges.vic.gov.au to request a copy.

If you receive a knockback notice for material that is non-compliant, you are required to remove the material and return it to your property and make alternative arrangements for disposal.

If it isn’t your waste, report it to Council on 1300 368 333 and it will be investigated.
