An Extreme Fire Danger Rating has been forecast for Yarra Ranges on Saturday, 22 February 2025. As a result, Warburton Water World, Olinda Outdoor Pool, Arts Centre Warburton, Belgrave South Progress Hall, Karwarra Gardens, and Birdsland Reserve will be closed for the safety of our community.Stay informed by visiting the Vic Emergency and CFA website for latest warnings and updates.
Council are aware that hard waste impacts the amenity of the area, however some of our unmade roads become slippery and inaccessible for large trucks to negotiate during the wetter months.
The trucks used during the hard waste collection period can be significantly heavier than usual kerbside waste collection trucks, so some areas of Yarra Ranges can be very difficult to access in wet weather.
We also need to consider the safety of the contractors when moving items such as heavy wet mattresses. As a large municipality it takes approximately three months to collect all hard waste.
There are only a small number of contractors offering this service, so we need to fit in with their schedule with other councils.
A bundled branch collection is also provided at this time, which complements the bundled branch collection occurring before the fire danger period. This gives residents the opportunity to clear vegetation during the fire season as well.
