Feedback from hundreds of Warburton residents will be used to guide Council’s decisions in town over the next 20 years, with the Draft Warburton Place Plan now in development.
Councillors unanimously approved the development of the Draft Warburton Place Plan, following community engagement between December 2018 and May this year.
Council identified the need for a Warburton Place Plan due to large-scale developments, such as the Warburton Community Recreation Precinct and the Warburton Mountain Bike Destination, getting underway in the area.
The Place Plan will reflect and respond to the values of the community of Warburton, Wesburn, Millgrove, East Warburton and Big Pats Creek, and be used to guide Council’s decisions in the town for the next 20 years.
Coordination of service delivery, advocacy and partnering with community to develop solutions will ensure the town’s future matches those values.
O’Shannassy Ward Councillor, Jim Child, said feedback from hundreds of residents was compiled into an Engagement and Directions Paper, which Council endorsed at their 22 October meeting.
“We know that Warburton is undergoing changes and has a lot ahead, with more than $28 million invested in the town from all levels of Government,” Cr Child said.
“When it’s finished, the Place Plan will help us to look at what the area might need for 10, 20, 30 years into the future.
“The plan has come about because of this significant investment, but it’s important for community members to keep in mind that the plan isn’t just about planning for the Warburton Mountain Bike Destination, it’s about guiding our decisions on all facets of Warburton’s future for decades to come.
“We heard a lot from the community earlier this year, about tourism, accommodation, the environment, planning, accessibility and infrastructure, among other topics.
“That feedback has been captured in our Engagement and Directions Paper, and will directly inform the Draft Place Plan.
“Community members can rest assured that there’ll be plenty of time to look over the draft and provide feedback when it’s out to the community early next year.”
