"I have been a Bookaburra volunteer since 2013.

I really enjoy volunteering as I like meeting and getting to know the children and parents, seeing how the children get involved and develop a love of books and it is very satisfying to give something back to my community.

The Bookaburra program helps parents to choose and read books and literature with their children and encourages positive and fun interactions with their little ones. I also love having the opportunity to chat to parents and share ideas and experiences. I feel I have made some good friends among the families and other volunteers.

We have had a child whose parents first brought her when she was 6 weeks old and she sat on her parents lap and watched all the stories so intently. We also had one boy who had started school after several years of Bookaburra and will occasionally beg for a day off school to come to story time with his little sister."
