Community members are encouraged to share their thoughts on four playspace projects in Council’s urban region over the coming month.
Playspaces in Bimbadeen Reserve, Mooroolbark and Mount Evelyn’s Kemp Reserve and Mt Evelyn Recreation Reserve will be upgraded in coming years, with a new playspace to be built in Kilsyth Recreation Reserve.
Before commencing design for these spaces Council would like to hear from the community. Engagement is now open at shaping.yarraranges.vic.gov.au, with surveys open about what community members would like to see in these spaces.
Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Jim Child, encouraged community members to join in the conversation and share their thoughts.
“Local playspaces are such important parts of our day to day lives – they're where we meet with friends and family, where we spend sunny days, make memories and have fun together,” Cr Child said.
“We know these local playspaces are smaller than some of our district and regional-level spaces, but we also know that there are so many locals who live close by, visit with friends, or pass by these spaces regularly.
“It’s important for us to hear from you about what you’d like to see in these spaces, so we can design something that fits the community, meets the needs of residents, and creates unique spaces for us all to make memories at.
“The surveys only take a couple minutes to complete, and I encourage all of our community members to fill them out.”
The Bimbadeen, Kemp and Mt Evelyn Reserve are local playspaces and their upgrades are key actions in Council’s Playspace Plan 2019-2029 , which outlines all the playspaces in the region and when they are expected to be upgraded.
The new Kilsyth Recreation Reserve Playspace is also a local level playspace and is a direct result of community feedback that formed the Kilsyth Recreation Reserve Master Plan, adopted by Council in September 2023.
