Yarra Ranges Council is seeking local resident feedback on the proposed installation of road humps on Sheffield Road and a potential speed limit reduction on Glasgow Road in Montrose, as explained in the information below.
Sheffield Road – Road Humps
Yarra Ranges Council sent a survey to residents of Sheffield Road in March 2020 to ask for their views on a proposal to install road humps along the road at specific locations. A majority of survey participants indicated their support for the speed hump proposal. The overall results were as follows:

As the road works to improve drainage along Sheffield Road are now complete, we are pleased to inform you the proposed installation of seven flat top road humps can now proceed to help reduce speeds and improve road safety.
Over the next two weeks, road pavement markings will be provided for the road humps at the locations listed above. This will indicate the positioning of the road humps on Sheffield Road and assist preparation for construction. Some of these locations will require the installation of additional street lighting to ensure the hump is visible. As the installation of street lighting is undertaken by AusNet, this may delay the installation of some of the humps.
Glasgow Road – Proposed Speed Limit Reduction
Yarra Ranges Council is committed to improving road safety in the municipality. As a local government organisation, we recognise our role and influence in the goal of the State Government’s Towards Zero Strategy – to achieve a zero road toll in Victoria.
A key pillar of the Towards Zero Strategy is ‘Safer Speeds’ – relating to travelling at speeds appropriate to the road conditions.
We would like your feedback on the proposed reduction of the speed limit on Glasgow Road down to 60km/h or 50km/h as shown in the plan over the page. The proposal aims to achieve a safer and more consistent road environment.
Should feedback be received that is generally in support of the proposal, we will make an application to the Department of Transport (DoT) to formally reduce the speed limit. (Speed limits and speed signs are classified as a Major Traffic Control item and fall under the control of DoT).
