Plan for Victoria - Plan East

Be part of the Voice for the East and have your say on the future of planning in Victoria from now to 2050.

The Eastern Region Group (Yarra Ranges, Knox, Maroondah, Manningham and Whitehorse councils) of Councils is joining forces to ensure our local communities are heard as the Victorian Government develops a new Plan for Victoria.

Why this is important?

Last year, the Victorian Government announced a goal to deliver 800,000 new homes over a decade. This could have significant impacts on the region – our population is expected to grow by half a million residents over 30 years.

This will add to the existing pressures on our environment, housing, transport infrastructure, and community services.

We want to make sure that the Victorian Government considers what local communities value when they develop their Plan for Victoria.

A Plan for the East

The ERG Councils have identified priorities for planning for the East:

  • Community access and productivity - Increase sustainable transport options and reduce car dependency through bus and train network improvements
  • Infrastructure to support growth - Fund and deliver drainage, recreation, social and community infrastructure to support sustainable growth and protect amenity and environmental values
  • Our natural assets - Maintain and improve access to quality open space and our urban tree canopy to build climate and community resilience
  • Manage housing growth - Leverage major projects and local council expertise to deliver diverse and affordable housing, in areas with access to services and that are not exposed to flood and climate risk

How to get involved

We want the Victorian Government to consider the particular needs of the eastern region of Melbourne. Have your say on the future of planning in Victoria from now to 2050. Give your feedback to the State Government on A Plan for Victoria.
