Yarra Ranges has a wide variety of environmental volunteer opportunities. What you do and how much time you contribute is up to you. Examples of environmental volunteer opportunities are:

A Friends of group is a group of people who work together to conserve native plants and/or animals, reserves, parklands, bushlands, roadsides and waterways on public land.

Landcare is a joint effort between the community, government and business to protect and repair our environment. Landcare groups work on both public and private land.

If you're not keen to commit to regular working bees or being on a committee you should still contact groups that interest you and ask about being an occasional volunteer. Many groups will welcome an extra set of hands during a weeding or planting day.
Council runs yearly planting days during July and August that rely on community member participation. You can find out about upcoming planting days by signing up for Council's Environmental newsletter.
Yes! If there is a patch of land or bushland reserve that doesn't have a Friends of or other group already working there you can contact Council to discuss starting a new group. Contact environmentalvolunteers@yarraranges.vic.gov.au or phone 1300 368 333 and ask to speak to the Environmental Volunteer Support Officer.
