As the local government elections will be held on 26 October 2024, Yarra Ranges Council will assume a caretaker role from Tuesday 17 September 2024. During the caretaker period, there will be limited changes made to the content on Council's websites. Information will only be added to this website in accordance with caretaker requirements.
At Upwey South Preschool we are fortunate to be able to take the children from our kindergarten and pre-kindergarten groups in to the "back block" area of our preschool outdoor play space. Including our back block in our already wonderful outdoor space provides the children with an aesthetically pleasing, larger natural play space where they can manipulate and explore natural materials and learn about all that our natural environment has to offer.
The play is child initiated and is based on their thoughts and ideas. This form of play is used as a platform for intentional teaching by educators and allows for children's interest in the natural world to be continually explored and built upon with the children being active participants in their learning and development.
Children having uninterrupted time to play in natural environments with open-ended material allows them to engage in a range of activities that foster their development and learning, encouraging them to become flexible thinkers, develop self-confidence and independence.
