What you'll learn in this activity

Ages Appropriate for ages 3+

Purpose This activity allows children to be creative, to appreciate the shapes and colours of flowers, and supports fine motor skills as they cut and create their made flowers.

Let's play!

Follow these quick and easy steps to make your flower.

  1. Have a hunt around the house to find recycling and other spare materials.
  2. Find a plant or flower (either outside or online) and choose one that you would like to create.
  3. Together look at the plant or flower, at its colours, shapes and size, and think about how you might recreate it using the materials you have.
  4. Get creating! Cut the plastics and other materials to make your flower. (Young Children may need help with cutting and sticking)

Talking together

Questions

  • What colours shapes and textures can you see?
  • What materials could we use to make that part?
  • Tell me what you like most about your creation, and why?

Extension

Children who love to draw might like to paint or draw the flower they find.
