33 Mountain Swamp Gum Swampy Riparian Woodland (EVC 83)
Community structure
The lower strata are variously locally dominated by a range of shrub species on the stream levees in combination with large tussock grasses and sedges in the ground layer.
Woodland to 15m high with an upper storey dominated by Eucalyptus camphora (Mountain Swamp Gum) but sometimes including E. ovata (Swamp Gum). The middle storey contains a variety of large and medium shrubs along the banks while the ground cover is dominated by sedges, rushes and grasses.
Distribution
Scattered in moister lowland areas along slow-moving creeks of the foothills and floodplains on the Yarra River at Everard Park and Cockatoo Creek at Yellingbo. While this community is mostly linear wetland it also includes the drier banks and levees. Soils are moist, especially in winter. It is a significant vegetation community within the Shire with a very limited distribution.
