28 Red Box Grassy Dry Forest - Christmas Hills (EVC 22)
Community structure
Woodland dominated by Eucalyptus goniocalyx (Long-leaf Box), E. macrorhyncha (Red Stringybark) and E. polyanthemos (Red Box) up to 20m high. The middle storey is sparse supporting a diverse range of shrubs, grasses, lilies, orchids and herbs. Weed invasion, especially pasture grasses, and agriculture have has a major impact on this community.
Distribution
Within the Shire this community is limited to a narrow strip along the western boundary above the Yarra River at Yarra Glen. It is more extensive in the neighbouring Shire of Nillumbik. It occurs on steep eastern facing slopes and exposed ridges up to 260m, on dry well drained clay soils.
