26 Red Stringybark Grassy Dry Forest - Middle Yarra (EVC 22)

Community structure 

Woodland or open forest with a mixture of eucalypts to 20m high including Eucalyptus goniocalyx (Long-leaf Box), E. obliqua (Messmate) and E. macrorhyncha (Red Stringybark). The middle storey has wattles and Exocarpos cupressiformis (Cherry Ballart) up to 15m high over a lower shrub layer. The ground layer can be sparse, dominated by drought tolerant tussock grasses such as Wallaby Grass, small shrubs, herbs, other grasses and sedges.  

Distribution 

Scattered through the north western section of the Shire at low altitudes below 450m. Except for a few patches in Gruyere and Coldstream, this community  is above the Yarra River between the western boundary abobe Yarra Glen to Healesville. The soil is dry, aspect ranging from exposed gullies, crests of ridges to slopes. 

Typical suburbs/areas occurring in this EVC are:  Coldstream, Gruyere, Warramate Hills, Healesville, Chum Creek, Paul Range, Christmas Hills, Mt. Slide.
