21 Broad-leaf Peppermint Heathy Dry Forest (EVC 20)

Community structure 

Woodland to low open forest to 25m high with an open crown cover of several eucalypts especially Eucalyptus dives (Broad-leaf Peppermint), E. macrorhyncha (Red Stringybark) and E. radiata (Narrow-leaf Peppermint). The middle storey is dominated by a low, sparse to dense layer of narrow-leaved shrubs including heaths and peas, to 4m high. The ground layer includes a wide variety of grasses, lilies and creepers but do not provide much cover. 

Distribution 

Scattered small patches of this community occur in the far north east of the Shire and again in the east beside Upper Yarra Reservoir with a small patch to the east of Hoddles Creek.  They grow on shallow, rocky skeletal soils on a range of landforms from gently undulating hills to exposed aspects on ridge tops and steep slopes at elevations between 200-800m. 

Typical suburbs/areas occurring in this EVC are:  Mt. Slide, Toolangi, Chum Creek, Launching Place/Yarra Junction to the east of Hoddles Creek, east and patches below of Upper Yarra Reservoir.
