Community structure 

Open forest with an  upper storey of medium eucalypts to 40m tall dominated by Eucalyptus cypellocarpa (Mountain Grey Gum) and E. obliqua (Messmate) over a distinctive middle storey including a diversity of narrow-leaved shrubs, especially wattles and peas. The lower storey has few ferns and scattered grasses, herbs, wire-grass and bracken. 

Distribution 

Occurs at medium to higher altitudes to 1000m on ridges and exposed slopes mainly on southern and eastern slopes in association with Damp Forest or Wet Forest on moderately fertile soils. Scattered patches occur east of Healesville in the Mt Riddell to Mt Monda Maroondah Catchment. It is more common east of McMahons Creek and O'Shannassy River to the northern boundary east of Cumberland Junction. 

Typical suburbs/areas occurring in this EVC are:  Healesville, McMahon's Creek, Reefton, Upper Yarra Catchment, northeast of Cumberland Junction.
