15 Scented Paperbark Riparian Thicket - Middle & Upper Yarra (EVC 59)
Community structure
Low woodland with dense thickets of Melaleuca squarrosa (Scented Paperbark) to 10m high, often associated with Leptospermum lanigerum (Woolly Tea-tree) and L. continentale (Prickly Tea-tree). Occasional emergent eucalypts such as Eucalyptus ovata (Swamp Gum) occur. Ground layer is dominated by ferns, tree-ferns, herbs and sedges.
Distribution
Scattered occurrences are restricted to drainage lines and gullies and on the broad beds of small streams and regular flooded terraces of large streams and rivers. These patches are usually found in the central regions of the Shire at low altitudes, below 250m, especially between Woori Yallock and Macclesfield Creeks. Many areas have been drained and cleared.
