08 Mountain Grey Gum Damp Forest – Dandenongs (EVC 29)

Community structure 

Open forest and woodland with an upper storey up to 40m high dominated by Eucalyptus cypellocarpa (Mountain Grey Gum) and E. obliqua (Messmate). Other eucalypts that may occur include E. radiata (Narrow-leaf Peppermint) and E. dives (Broad-leaf Peppermint). The middle storey contains a relatively sparse layer of wattles and a variety of small-leafed shrubs. The dense ground layer includes climbers, bracken, herbs, grasses and sedges. 

Distribution 

Scattered in the Dandenong Ranges abutting Mountain Ash Wet Forest from low altitude exposed gullies to protected slopes and ridges up to 400m, on a range of fertile soils. Isolated occurrences are between Woori Yallock and Wandin and in the Warramate Hills and western valleys of the Yarra River near Healesville.
