01 Alpine Ash Montane Damp Forest (EVC 38)
Community Structure
Open forest or woodland, dominated by tall eucalypt upper storey to 30m high, principally Eucalyptus delegatensis (Alpine Ash), with a dense shrub layer of medium to tall, dense, broad-leaf species of wet forests mixed with some dry forest species. The lower storey is composed of a variety of small shrubs, tussock grasses, lilies herbs and moisture-loving ferns.
Occasionally the sub-alpine Snow Gum (E. pauciflora) community occurs within the Montane Damp Forest.
Distribution
Limited occurrence within the Shire of Yarra Ranges at higher altitudes, usually above 1000m, on ridges and exposed slopes. It occurs on the north eastern boundary, in the vicinity of the Woods Point Road, in patches before The Triangle, following the road, especially north to the Shire boundary and just enters the Shire below Lake Mountain. It is more common outside the Shire.
