Managing Challenging Situations

It may be possible that volunteers find themselves assisting or working with a person where the situation may escalate, especially in the stress of an emergency such as bushfire, storm, etc.

It is something at the forefront of community group members minds, so what is the best way to handle someone whose behaviour becomes challenging? What tactics can we use to help diffuse a tense situation?

These interactions cause undue stress on volunteers and can drive people away. This applies to the general running of a community group and supporting community in the aftermath of an emergency.

In this workshop we will explore ways in which volunteers can learn to navigate a successful pathway through challenging situations that involve high emotions. These skills are not personal gifts that we all receive, but they can be learned and developed over
