Hairpin Banksia is a beautiful native shrub, indigenous to the Yarra Ranges. With long life cycles and specific conditions under which it germinates scientists are noticing a decline in its abundance.

The talk will cover:

  • Long life cycle of the Hairpin Banksia
  • How the Hairpin Banksia germinates
  • Native plants need fire but how often?
  • And more.

Annette Muir from the Arthur Rylah Institute joins us to talk about her research on banksias, other native plants and their responses to fire. Annette’s research has been vital to filling in the knowledge gaps around this species and her ongoing work is helping to protect this beautiful plant.

This talk is presented via Yarra Ranges Gardens for Wildlife Program.
