FAQ's

Why is the Coldstream Community Centre closed?

The Coldstream Community Centre is temporarily closing for renovations starting 25 November, with exciting upgrades planned to improve accessibility, functionality, and energy efficiency.

Yarra Ranges Council received expedited funding from the Federal Government’s Preparing Australian Communities fund, allowing these upgrades to move forward sooner than expected. This fast tracked funding ensures the installation of solar panels and battery storage, enabling the Centre to function as an emergency hub during power outages and remain operational when the community needs it most.

What renovations are taking place?

We’re making several enhancements, including:

  • New thermal & acoustic ceiling being installed to Multi-Purpose 2
  • New accessible entry to the building with fully compliant access path leading from the existing accessible carparks to the front door
  • New Loading Bay and access ramp serving the Kitchen accessed via a side door
  • Upgraded and remodelled Kitchen
  • Upgraded fully compliant toilet facilities
  • Installing solar panels and battery storage, enabling the Centre to function as an emergency hub during power outages and ensuring it remains operational when the community needs it most

When will the centre reopen?

We plan to reopen the centre in late March, weather permitting, with all renovations completed and ready for the community to enjoy.

Can I access the centre for any activities during the renovation period?

The entire centre will be closed to the public for the duration of the renovation to ensure safety and allow for a smooth construction process, though with Council permission, some access may be available during the construction period.

Why is the Centre closing for upgrades?

We understand that the timing of these upgrades may feel unexpected, and we want to share the unique opportunity that made it possible.

Recently, we received a fast-tracked funding boost from the Federal Government through their Preparing Australian Communities fund. This has allowed us to move forward with much-needed upgrades to the centre. Without this funding, these improvements may have been delayed for years or even remained unfeasible.

While this temporary closure may be a short-term inconvenience, we are confident the long-term benefits will be significant. These upgrades will create a modern, welcoming space that better serves the needs of our community. It’s a small impact now, with a huge benefit for the future—ensuring a more resilient, adaptable venue that can accommodate a broader range of activities and events.

How will these improvements benefit the community?

These upgrades will make the centre more accessible, energy-efficient, and functional for a wider range of community activities. Enhanced facilities will provide a more comfortable and inclusive space for all users.

With the addition of solar power and battery storage, the Centre is also equipped to serve as an emergency hub during power outages and emergencies.

Will parking be impacted by these changes?

During construction, parking may be temporarily limited, but the final outcome will be more accessible parking for all users.
