Review the code of conduct

The Victorian Screen Industry outlines a code of conduct we expect film makers to abide by. Before submitting your filming permit application, make sure you read the Victorian Screen Industry code of conduct.

Submit the application and wait for our response

We generally respond to applications within 5 business days. More complex applications may take more time to process.

You may be required to pay filming fees or get additional permissions depending on the nature of your filming. We'll let you know if you need any additional permissions in our response.

You may be required to pay filming fees or obtain additional permissions depending on the nature of your filming.

We will inform you of any required fees or additional permissions upon processing your permit application.

Student filming does not incur a fee, but must still have appropriate insurance in place.

If your activities are deemed to have a low impact (see below) you will still need to register your activity, but may not need any further permissions.

Low impact filming and photography

Low impact filming and photography is defined as:

  • a filming activity of six people or less (includes all production crew and talent)
  • ·no more than one camera, one tripod, and handheld sound recording equipment
  • public safety is maintained at all times and all public pathways, footpaths and roads are not be blocked or restricted.

To approve a low impact filming activity, we require proof of your current public liability insurance and at least 5 business days’ notice.

Complex filming and photography

Any filming or photography activity that does not meet the criteria of low impact filming will considered complex filming.
