Yarra Valley Trail will be a game changer for the region, providing outstanding community infrastructure, creating local jobs, and connecting trail users to some of Australia's finest wineries, cultural attractions, and tourism destinations.

Yarra Valley Trail Stage 1 is a 12km shared trail following the Lilydale to Yarra Glen rail corridor and is being constructed in two stages.

  • YVT Stage 1A from Lilydale to Yering is complete and opened to the public in 2020.
  • YVT Stage 1B from Yering to Yarra Glen required a planning permit. Council is working through the permit conditions with the view to tendering the project as soon as possible.

Yarra Valley Trail Stage 1 is being built in partnership with the Australian Government through the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities ($2.5m), and the Victorian Government through the Growing Suburbs Fund ($2.5m) and the Eastern Metro Partnerships ($1m). Council has contributed $2.5m to the project.

YVT Stage 2A Yarra Glen to Tarrawarra, Stage 2B Tarrawarra to Healesville, Stage 3A Healesville to Seville East and Stage 3B Healesville to Woori Yallock will connect to Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, creating an iconic, valley-wide loop. The Australian Government has announced funding ($4.9m) for Yarra Valley Trail Stage 2A.  Remaining stages are in planning and are not funded for construction.
