Indigo Power (a community energy retailer) has received $497,450 from the Federal Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
This funding will deliver a 120kW/300kWh battery at Yarra Junction that aims to increase the grid stability of the local electricity network and bolster the resilience of local energy supplies. It will also allow more rooftop solar and electric devices to be connected to the local network.
Yarra Ranges Council has partnered with Indigo Power to support the implementation of the battery, providing the land that the battery will be located on.
The battery will be located at 2436 Warburton Highway Yarra Junction, a YRC site currently utilised as an informal gravel carpark. Indigo Power will manage the project, overseeing installation and connection.
The battery will be approximately four square metres in footprint, with a ‘baffle’ system installed to minimise noise from the air conditioning units. The proposed location of the battery on the block of land is in the top left corner (blue rectangle in image) of the block to minimise the amount of trenching required, and limit the impact on car parking. Bollards will be installed to protect the battery from the movement of cars.
The installation of the battery requires a new pole and transformer to be installed by Ausnet, which is covered by the grant funding.
