The Yarra Ranges Council values and encourages public participation in its meetings as an essential element of good governance. To ensure a productive and respectful environment for all attendees, we kindly request that members of the public adhere to the following guidelines in conjunction with Council’s Governance Rules, which are available on the Website:
Treat all participants, including Councillors, staff, and fellow community members, courteously and respectfully. Engage in constructive and civil interactions while refraining from personal attacks, threats, or disruptive behaviour.
If you wish to address the council during the public participation section of the meeting, you must follow the procedures outlined in the Governance Rules. This involves registering your intention to speak prior to the meeting. During the meeting, you must state your name for the record and address the chairperson or relevant council member with your submission.
Be mindful of time constraints. In accordance with the Governance Rules, a total of five minutes is allocated to each speaker. Use your allocated time effectively to convey your points clearly and concisely.
Maintain a quiet and attentive demeanour during the meeting, especially while others are speaking. Refrain from engaging in disruptive activities that may hinder the progress of the meeting or impede the ability of others to participate.
Adhere to the instructions and guidance provided by the meeting chairperson or designated council member. The Chair is responsible for maintaining order and ensuring a fair and efficient meeting process.
Familiarise yourself with the Governance Rules applicable to Yarra Ranges Council meetings. These rules outline the procedures, protocols, and expectations governing public participation. Ensure your conduct aligns with the prescribed guidelines.
