Little Yarra Steiner Kindergarten

Little Yarra Steiner Kindergarten provides early childhood education through a rich play-based pedagogy. There are three Preschool groups: Wirrip, Djirri Djirri & Murrum. Each group is in the care of an Early Childhood Teacher and an Educator who provide a warm, secure environment in which the children can develop physically, socially and spiritually. The Wirrip and Djirri Djirri groups are for our 4-year-old kinder program (pre-prep) and the Murrum group is for children who are 3 years old, turning 4 throughout that year.

During the early years children take in the world without discernment, and so it is vital that the environment we surround them with is wholesome and good. The staff work to create an atmosphere in which there is respect and reverence for one another and the world around. Our preschool environment is designed to nurture children with warmth and to stimulate their imaginations. The structured and rhythmic nature of the daily preschool program supports the children’s sense of security.

A daily rhythm is established by balancing periods of self-initiated free play with those of more directed effort. Mornings may begin with a free play period followed by an organised activity such as bread baking or painting. Morning tea is another focal point, where the children often help prepare food and the table.
