Paper Bag Puppets

Things you'll need for this activity

  • Paper bag
  • Scrap paper
  • Crayons, texta’s, stickers, wool etc.
  • Glue
  • Sticky tape
  • 1 thick stick for each paper bag

Ages Appropriate for ages 3+

Purpose This creative fine motor activity supports children’s imagination, language sense of identity by providing children’s with a voice to express, speak and listen.

Let's play!

Follow these quick and easy steps to make your puppet.

  1. On one side of the paper bag draw a face and decorate. How is your puppet feeling?
  2. Scrunch the scrap paper into balls
  3. Fill the bag full of scrunched paper
  4. Place the stick into the paper bag until it is right at the top
  5. Tie the bottom (open end) of the paper bag onto the stick using tape.
  6. Now you are already to get creative with your new friend!

  • What name can you give your puppet?
  • Tell me about your puppet's name and character?

Extension

Write a script and make a puppet show for your family. You could make some more puppets for extra characters.
